The Nigerian Ports Authority, led by Managing Director Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, alongside the Executive Director, Finance & Administration, and senior management, visited @LekkiPort to consolidate transshipment volumes to landlocked neighboring countries. Lekki Deep Seaport’s cutting-edge infrastructure and equipment set a benchmark for NPA’s port modernization program, showcasing the future of Nigeria’s maritime industry. Its fully automated operations align seamlessly with NPA’s drive to deploy the Port Community System (PCS), which is in its final stages of implementation, paving the way for the National Single Window (NSW) to streamline trade processes.
Lekki’s capacity to berth super post-panamax vessels and deliver rapid cargo and vessel turnaround positions it as a game-changer for Nigeria’s export competitiveness, particularly for agro-allied products, as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) gains traction. The port’s efficiency is driving steady increases in transshipment numbers, meeting the maritime needs of neighboring countries and supporting NPA’s goal of achieving economies of scale. This enhanced competitiveness fuels demand, boosts foreign exchange inflows, and contributes significantly to Nigeria’s year-on-year trade surplus, reinforcing the national economy.
The NPA commends the Management of Lekki Deep Seaport for sustaining superior performance and remains unwavering in its commitment to providing every necessary support to optimize the port’s potential. This strategic focus on growing exports and leveraging Lekki’s distinctive features ensures Nigeria is well-positioned in the global marketplace. The Authority expresses gratitude to Honorable Minister, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, CON, for his steadfast backing, which has been instrumental in these achievements.
