NPA WILL SUPPORT LEKKI DEEP SEAPORT TO UNLEASH THE BENEFITS OF ECONOMIES OF SCALE - DANTSOHO
The Managing Director Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho has assured that the NPA will provide every support necessary to enable the Lekki Deep Seaport unleash the benefits of economies of scale on the national economy.
Speaking when he paid an output-consolidation visit to the Lekki Deep Seaport on Saturday May 24th 2025, Dantsoho said “this Management intends to more frontally position the national economy to reap the multi-dimensional benefits of economies of scale that Lekki Port with its capacity to berth super post-panamax sized vessels possesses”.
Elucidating further, the NPA helmsman said “the quality of infrastructure and equipment, Lekki Port signposts the direction we are looking at especially as we aggressively pursue the implementation of our port modernization programme”.
“Going by the steady increase in transshipment numbers from Lekki, we are already set to meet the maritime needs of our landlocked neighboring countries”.
“The fully automated status of Lekki is very much in tandem with our drive to fully automate all our ports with the policy backing and support of the Honourable Minister of Marine & Blue Economy His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola CON” who is at forefront of the resolve to deploy the Port Community System (PCS) which the NPA has fast tracked to final stages in readiness for the National Single window (NSW)”.
Lekki Deep SeaPort’s distinctive features which positions it for quick cargo and vessel turn around will greatly enhance the competitiveness of our exports especially agro-allied products in the international marketplace, especially as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) gains momentum.
With enhanced competitiveness comes increased demand which ultimately grows FOREX inflow into the country”.

This is coming on the heels of the Honourable Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola ‘s endorsement of the NPA and Lekki Port’s strategic alliance to dredge the Lekki Port beyond its current draft in readiness for growing vessel and cargo throughput.
The visit had in attendance Board Chairman Lekki Port, Mr. Abiodun Dabiri, Managing Director Lekki Port Mr. Qiang Wang, Executive Director Finance & Administration NPA, Vivian Richard-Edet, Director Lekki Port Alhaji Olabode Oyedele and other senior officials of NPA and Lekki Port.
